The Client
Flatland Film Festival (FFF) was established in 2003. FFF is a program of The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) that aims to cultivate an appreciation for film, video, and digital moving-image expression and to support artists working in this mode of expression. Over the past 20 years, FFF has been fortunate to have filmmakers from all over the world screen their work and provide personal insight into their inspiration and motivation by participating in panel discussions. Attendees have experienced a diverse collection of feature films, documentaries, shorts, animations, music videos, art installations, and other forms of creative sight and sound that stimulate emotion and challenge your perspective. Flatland Film Festival is the perfect opportunity to watch independent films for the very first time.
The Challenge
Flatland Film Festival needed a consistent partner to brand and establish itself as an annual event. In addition, the festival theme may change depending on the overall topic of the film selections. Marketing, advertising, and production expertise are also required to develop and strategically place ads to generate awareness among cinephiles and casual movie goers. The pandemic provided a unique challenge for the event to continue virtually because “the show must go on.
The Results
Each year, LHUCA must apply for a grant and then share the metrics to continue receiving funding for the Flatland Film Festival. The festival continues to evolve and thrive so it may screen films that attendees have (likely) never seen before. Since 2017, Rusty Griffin has been on the Flatland Film Festival committee and enjoys collaborating with fellow committee members to promote the event.
